WCER’s Matt Hora to Study Higher Education-Workforce Relations in China

May 6, 2016

Are Chinese colleges and universities producing graduates that meet the needs of its workforce? WCER researcher Matthew Hora is on a two-week mission to find out as part of a pilot study to explore these issues in a rapidly modernizing Chinese higher education system.

Hora will meet with scholars in Beijing’s Tsinghua and Renmin universities, and will conduct interviews with faculty and local employers at Qingdao Technical College. He plans to identify the skillsets valued by educators and employers, teaching and training practices that cultivate them, and the role of Chinese culture and history in shaping education‐workforce relations.

This pilot study is based on a similar study conducted in Wisconsin, and a forthcoming study exploring these dynamics in four regions of the United States.
